PRE-WEDDING KIMONO PHOTOSHOOT IN ASAKUSA, TOKYO

Tokyo Proposal and Engagement Photography:  A Prewedding Kimono Photoshoot in Asakusa

When P and U, a newly-engaged couple from Bangkok were travelling to Japan in early December, they initially wanted to have their pre-wedding photoshoot in the nature environment to incorporate beautiful autumn colours as a backdrop to their session. Drawn to the mood and tone of my portfolio, they got in touch asking if I could help to capture their special moments and advise of potential locations. Through our discussions their initial plan of a pre-wedding photoshoot in one of the Tokyo’s parks evolved into two photoshoots in three different locations around Tokyo.

One of my suggestions was to do a very early morning photoshoot in Asakusa on the grounds of Senso-ji temple. This is one of the most visited landmarks in Tokyo and it gets packed very quickly. Unlike daytime or evening, early morning offers a magical atmosphere with soft light and nearly empty temple grounds, ensuring that couples can get a unique and undisturbed experience. P became very excited about an opportunity to do the shoot in a traditional Japanese kimono adding an authentic touch to the photographs. Generally kimono rental shops open their doors later in the day but P was lucky to find one (Vasara Rental Kimonos) that was willing to accommodate them very early. On my recommendation P chose a red kimono which really popped against the reds of the Temple.

If you plan to do a photoshoot in Senso-ji I can’t recommend enough starting very early! We started our session at 7:30am and it completely paid off with beautiful morning light and relatively empty temple grounds!
